richard’s technotes is a blog that I use to capture handy techniques and ideas that are of use to me and maybe others too.
Current interests include all things tech but especially innovative networking concepts, ER (enhanced reality), TER (telepresent enhanced reality), IoW (internet of whatever), robotics, AI, ML, quantum computing, molecular biology, cancer genetics…I could go on.
My primary focus right now is rt-ai Edge and rt-xr. I believe that there is a tremendous opportunity for embedded intelligent stream processing at the edge and that rt-ai Edge has an architecture and level of usability that is unique. rt-xr provides visualization for rt-ai Edge (or other edge networks) that allows local AR/MR users and remote VR users to collaborate. In particular, rt-ai Edge and rt-xr work together to enable sentient spaces, which are highly augmented spaces that leverage machine learning to provide useful functionality to local and remote occupants.
I believe that the route to creating Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is to build rich networks of individual AI functional blocks. Current CNNs such as SSDs and RNNs such as sequence detectors act as essential preprocessors of data, extracting low data rate meaning from high data rate sensors. Behind these front line detectors and processors, agents, possibly based on Reinforcement Learning (RL) technologies or something completely new, devise intelligent plans of action based on the processed sensor data. rt-ai is an ideal framework with which to build these networks.
I am a veteran of multiple startups including Netcomm Limited in the UK (back in the dark ages and acquired by General Datacomm), Sirocco Systems in the US (acquired by Sycamore Networks) back in the optical networking bubble days and a few other startups of lesser note. I have now moved on to combining XR with AI (and optionally 5G) at the edge and plan that this will be the basis of a new venture.
I’d say that, if I have any particular skill, it’s being able to learn new stuff really fast and then turn that into something that works really fast too. The one thing that I absolutely hate is other people doing stuff that I could have done before I get around to doing it.
I have been spending my time in southern Maine with an occasional dose of SoCal but I am now in the process of moving back to the San Diego area.
